Bringing Stories Alive! e-Workshop

I am so thrilled and stoked about this next offering - My Best Kept Secrets of the Dramatic Arts.  In this workshop I  have put together the most powerful ways to bring the fairy tales and favorite story books to life.  Stories are the key to engaging young children in essential literacy development.

Literacy in its best form is soul nourishment.  Stories shape our capacity to imagination and conceive the written word.   In early childhood, the best gift we can bestow our students is to bring the story alive through the dramatic arts.

In this eWorkshop I am going to cover these important things:

Why Stories are the most important component of any curriculum:

• How storytelling is the powerhouse element in literacy
• The brain research behind this truth
• We will look at how to teach the following elements in an authentic and natural way:

How to bring any story to life through Puppetry:

• How to make and use simple puppets - you will get my treasure trove
• My very best puppet projects for children to create and make!  Super cool!
• How to put on simple table puppet shows of the major fairy tales
• Table puppets are puppets held in your hand
• The children will imitate this and retell the story over and over
• Learn how to make a simple table puppet of any character!  It is easy and quick and beautiful!
• I will give you a simple guide to how to set up your table puppet theater

How to bring any story to life through Acting It Out:

• How to make simple plays out of any early childhood story
• How to make simple staging and props

Making stage props!

Our Dancing Dragon

It was a great celebration in the hallways of my school.  A Chinese Dancing Dragon made quite a noise!

Preparing for Chinese New Years

This last week my classroom has been a buzz preparing for Chinese New Years.   Here's a peek into our preparations:

 Each color family designed a Dancing Dragon.

 Colors and designs were recorded.

 We built the head of Dancing Dragon out of cardboard boxes.

 Painted it with acrylic paint.

I am traveling this weekend - later today I will post more photos of the preparations!

Tomorrow we will do our dance!

 The children glued on squares of construction paper.

 The children glued fabric pieces they cut onto the gold fabric they picked for the body!

 I have a nice collection of Chinese outfits. 

So I had a volunteer photograph the children.

I tinted them to look old.  So cute!
